About the Needle Exchange
Part of the way AIDS New Brunswick helps reduce the spread of HIV and Hepatitis C is though its Needle Exchange Programs. Needle Exchange Programs are exactly what they sound like, they are programs that distribute sterile injection equipment and resources to those who need it, as means of reducing the spread of HIV and Hepatitis C, and offer a space to safely dispose of used equipment. In Canada, sharing injection equipment makes up about 69% of all new Hepatitis C infections. For more information about Hepatitis C and other STBBI’s visit our Education section.
AIDS New Brunswick understands that there are people who use drugs, and that there are many services available for people to access if and when they are ready to stop using drugs. Our role is to provide the resources and referrals needed to help those who are using drugs keep themselves as safe as possible.
