What’s New?

Announcement of CAS Forum

Via CAS:

This year the Canadian AIDS Society (CAS) is pleased to host its PLWHIV Forum, Members’ Caucus and Annual Meeting as ancillary events following the 25th Annual Canadian Conference on HIV/AIDS Research (CAHR 2016) – to be held in Winnipeg between May 16-18, 2016.

While the CAS PLWHIV Forum and Annual Meeting have in the past traditionally been hosted in Ottawa, we hope to begin a new practice of hosting our annual conferences in various cities across Canada – aligning ourselves each year with other major conferences connecting the HIV movement.

There are several advantages to hosting our conferences in various locations across Canada – and we intend to increase the total number of CAS scholarships to offer financial assistance to PLWHIV, with or without ASO affiliation, and member organization representatives as a way to encourage attendance to these important meetings.

Each of these events provide an opportunity to share information, discuss new ideas, contribute to policy development and renew acquaintances. Perhaps more than ever, this year we will have the opportunity to collectively shape the future of the HIV movement in this country. To this end, we request Executive Directors to attend in person – or assign a delegate who has full authority to make decisions of behalf of your respective organizations.

We look forward to seeing you there.

May 16, 2016: People Living with HIV Forum: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

The PLWHIV Forum (Forum) of the Canadian AIDS Society (CAS) is intended to be a means to enable people living with HIV (PLWHIV) to participate in creating the vision for their future. Open exclusively to PLWHIV, the Forum offers an excellent opportunity to network with others from across Canada and to set priorities for the community-based AIDS movement.

Delegates of the Forum will nominate their regional PLWHIV Directors to any vacant positions on the CAS Board to be voted at the Annual Meeting. In addition, resolutions arising from the Forum are sent to the Board of Directors to help advise and guide the ongoing work of the Canadian AIDS Society. All delegates are encouraged to run for any vacant PLWHIV position on the Canadian AIDS Society’s Board of Directors.

May 17, 2016: Members’ Caucus: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

The Members’ Caucus precedes and is an integral component of the Annual Meeting. It is open to any delegates of CAS members and associate organizations.

May 18, 2016: CAS Annual Meeting: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm

The Canadian AIDS Society’s Annual Meeting (AM) is open to all delegates. Elections to vacant positions on the Board of Directors will be held during the Annual Meeting. It also is an excellent opportunity to network with delegates of the member and associate organizations of CAS, and to review the strategic direction of, and set priorities for, the community-based AIDS movement in Canada.

Positive Plus One

AIDS New Brunswick is supporting researchers across the country on Positive Plus One: A national, mixed-methods study of relationships where one partner has HIV, and the other does not. Positive Plus One is currently recruiting participants, and wants to hear the voices of both HIV-positive and HIV-negative partners. Participants can share the ups and downs of living with HIV in their relationship. Their experiences may also help other couples, and may lead to better health and support programs for all.

If you would like to participate in the study, please go to www.PositivePlusOne.ca or call 1-888-740-1166. If you or your organization would like to aid in recruitment, please contact us at info@PositivePlusOne.ca, or by phone at 1-888-740-1166
